Early affection by George Moses Horton

This poem is of corse a love poem. It talks about true pure love and how the poet will love this person forever. It also talks about how the poet will continue to love this person even after death though the poet says how the lover somehow betrayed the poet? I believe it's talking about how when the lover died his love was betrayed. Over all the main idea of the poem is about love and how it can continue even through death or betrayal.

Holy Sonnets: Death, be not proud by John Doone

This poem is basically mocking death. Though in some lines it seems as though the poet is mad at death or in some cases testing death. For an example the line "and soonest our best men with thee do go". This to me is an insult, like the poet is mad that death has taken these men. All in all the poem is mainly mocking or making fun of death.
